We have started rolling out Learning.com at Forest North with our K-5 Students. Each grade level has their own self-paced and guided lessons that cover all the Technology TEKS for that grade level. We have also set up a Keyboarding course for each grade as well. Most classes are coming to the computer lab to get started. Some are working on their laptops or Chromebooks in the classroom. Our 3rd Grade NGDC class is even using their iPads and the Learning.com App to cover these TEKS. The students are having a blast and teachers are loving how easy it is to use.

Mrs. Young and I are so grateful for the opportunity to provide digital experiences to our students as they learn with iPads this year in the library. So far we've already used iPads with book clubs to explore the South Pole via a live feed, to learn about verb tenses & homophones with an assessment app called Nearpod, and have used the digital touch screen to make a giant chart about context clues. We are saving time by using the online catalog on the iPads, instead of having to jot down call numbers and go back and forth between a desktop and the stacks. Two students are serving as interns to help manage the iPad collection, taking care that the devices are charged and security stowed overnight. We are starting our giant project with Library Leaders and other groups on campus to film "Reading Rainbow"-style book talks that promote our collection and get the word out about new, exciting books on our shelves. The excitement is palpable, the ability to instantly engage & assess is so convenient, and kids are getting access to technology that is new to many of them, preparing them to be the "techies" of the future!

Mrs. Fournier our Librarian and students used iPads (courtesy of Ms. Bell, our lovely art teacher with a NextGen classroom) to scan a QR code and vote for their favorite book. Then, they used the iPads to play a Kahoot where students answer 2 questions from each of the 10 Armadillo books, and the student with the fastest, most correct responses wins from each K-2 class.

Mrs. Lavender's 5th grade students have been using Storybird to work on their writing skills. They get to pick pictures that they then write a story about. Mrs. Lavender says her students are loving it and that some have already written over 6 stories.

Mrs. Yeager's 2nd Grade class used Kahoot to review what they had learned about the water cycle and weather. The students said they had a blast and that Kahoot really helps them remember the material. It has become their new favorite review!!!
Mrs. Talley's 4th grade class worked with Mrs. San Miguel's 1st grade class to write short stories. They used the website Storybird.com to create short stories. On this site, the "buddies" picked background pictures from the website and then created a story to go along with the pictures. The students loved it and it was a great way for them to work on their creative writing. Our 1st grades loved working with their "Buddies"

Our 4th graders took notes from an ActivInspire Flipchart and then reviewed the materials using Kahoot. The kids loved the Kahoot and really got into the lesson.

Mrs. Yeager's class used several websites to learn about the Continents and Oceans and then played games online to reinforce what they had learned in class. The students had a blast and learned a lot.
They even got to create their own map of the world!!!

Ms. Sayaovong's 2nd Grade class used Pebblego.com to research their topics and then they created interactive timelines online. The kids really seemed to enjoy it and said they felt like it helped them better understand their topics.
